Perched on the shores of Lake Michigan, the United States National Lake Shore is a must-see spot if you’re visiting northern Michigan. It was named Good Morning America’s “Most Beautiful Place in America” and it does not disappoint. There is always a fun outdoor activity to do, no matter the season while you’re here from swimming and hiking to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
This shopping center is a unique place to visit with one-of-a-kind stores and restaurants. It’s a historic renovation of the old Traverse City State Hospital that was built in 1885. If you don’t get all your steps in for the day while shopping, don’t worry! The building is also located on 480 acres of preserved parkland with miles of nature-filled walking paths.
Being surround by the Great Lakes, there are lots of lighthouses along the coasts of Michigan. There are five lighthouses that are near the Traverse City area, and three of them offer tours.
Sitting along the 45th parallel with some of Europe’s finest wine destination paired with its unique climate along the shores of Lake Michigan, the Traverse City area is the perfect place to make wine. During your visit to the area, make your way over to the Traverse Wine Coast and visit some of the nearly 30 wineries and tasting rooms located on the area. Most of the wineries are open all year, and many of them host fun tasting events.
The Traverse City area isn’t only known for their wine, they’re also the home to multiple craft breweries. Whether you prefer the dark, the light, or the hoppy, you’ll find the perfect brew for you.
Take yourself out to the ball game and watch Traverse City’s minor league baseball team the Pit Spitters play. They’re a part of the Northwoods League that is made of 22 teams from the Midwest and Canada. They play nearly 40 home games each year from late-May through early-August.
